The 2004 Mercedes-Benz C-Klasse revision saw plenty of changes, most of which were aimed at the car’s underpinnings rather than the exterior. The latter remained virtually unchanged while the car received several inside implants and upgrades, from the engine range to the replacement of the older 5-speed manual transmission with a 6-speed one boasting shorter gear ratios and a new multiple-cone system. As in lots of other cases, reverse position is reached by lifting a ring placed just below the gear knob while lifting and jerking the lever to the left and back. The interior also saw quite a number of changes, having been available with multiple upholstery choices while safety features were successfully kept at standards reached in 2002 when the C-Klasse earned a top 5-star rating in EuroNCAP tests.
